    Arkansas State University gives ‘all clear’ following Saturday bomb threat

    JONESBORO, Ark.- Two buildings on the Arkansas State University campus were evacuated Saturday morning but were given the “all clear” after authorities investigated a possible bomb threat.

    According to university officials, a bomb threat was made, prompting the Dean B. Ellis Library and the Carl R. Reng Student Union to be evacuated.

    Students and faculty were notified via text messages around 7:15 a.m., but by 9:59 a.m. a text message was released stating that regular activities on campus could resume.

    A message was also posted to the A-State Facebook page .

    “Authorities have issued an all-clear for the Dean B. Ellis Library. No credible threat has been discovered on campus. A-State is resuming normal operations at this time,” the post stated.

    Another Facebook post was later issued stating that there had been an ongoing issue in the Jonesboro community.

    “Over the past week, the Jonesboro E-911 center has received an unusually high number of swatting reports,” The post stated. “But in the name of campus safety, we take these threats very seriously.”

    Jonesboro authorities said they are continuing to investigate.
