Bridge work between Jonesville and Seymour begins
JONESVILLE, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors, Inc. began bridge rehabilitation on Monday along State Road 11 over the John Thompson County Ditch, between Seymour and Jonesville in Jackson County. Current bridge work on State Road 11 over East Fork White River overflow will be completed before the start of additional bridge work.
Jackson County Fair opens, Fair Queen crowned
BROWNSTOWN, Ind. – The 2024 Jackson County Fair got underway Sunday evening in Brownstown and continues today, Monday, July 22, through this Saturday, July 27. One of the initial events was choosing the Jackson County Fair Queen Court on Sunday evening. Carly Kaiser was selected as the 2024 Jackson County Fair Queen. North Vernon to hire code enforcement officer
NORTH VERNON, Ind. — The North Vernon City Council convened on Monday, July 22. Mayor Shawn Gerkin informed the council that Fire Chief Mike Cole is researching and writing a job description for a code enforcement officer. The position would be under the umbrella of the fire department and the office would also be located there. The fire department is required to do annual inspections of all commercial buildings. The officer would be taking on that responsibility as well as helping the city’s street department and the police department enforce city ordinances.
Jennings County crowdfunding campaign needs $20K to receive matching grant
NORTH VERNON, Ind. — Jennings County residents will soon have more equitable access to community wellness activities if a crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $20,000 by September 15. The project, led by Perceptions Yoga, Mindfulness, and Art, Inc. would receive a matching grant from IHCDA’s CreatINg Places program.
June unemployment rates up for local counties
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD) announced Monday that the June unemployment rates increased for south-central Indiana counties compared to May. For Bartholomew County, the June rate was 3.9%, up from May’s 3.4%. The county reported 42,222 employed residents out of a 43,914-person labor force.
