JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Outlaws have won their last three games, but on Tuesday they took a a step away from the game to give back to the Joplin community.

The Outlaws organization and players came together to host their annual youth clinic. The team would hold two sessions – a morning session from 9 a.m. to noon for five through nine-year-olds and an afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for 10 through 14-year-olds.

The campers performed basic fundamental drills like fielding, hitting, baserunning and more.

First-year Outlaw players Kahle Good and Xavier Fosbenner explained what it means to pay it forward to the Joplin community.

Good said, “I mean, it’s awesome. You know, I remember I was a little younger and my brothers, older brothers were playing. You know, it’s the same kids his age. So to be older now and to, you know, be full circle at that moment, it’s pretty cool to get back to these kids and, you know, make them, you know, remember this from their lives and maybe push the game with that. So it’s been awesome.”

Fosbenner says, “I mean, it’s awesome. They’re they’re excited. We’re excited. I mean, it’s the wars are off the air, so we like to rest, but it’s not bad being out here. These guys are fun. They’re having fun. So it’s fun for us, too.”

David Joki and Adam Jones said, “I don’t think I want to take away anything just play baseball. Yeah, well, I kind of want to see how the college kids are doing stuff, see if I can learn anything from them doing it.”

The camp ended with a scrimmage between outlaw players and campers. The campers also left with a t-shirt and a ticket to an upcoming game.
