Home total loss, firefighters battle house fire and heat exhaustion

BARRY COUNTY, Mo. (KOAM) — About 4:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon amidst 100°+ heat index a structure fire near Golden, Mo. alerted Barry County E-911.

Eagle Rock Golden Mano Fire Protection District, Barry County Deputies and EMS responded. Mutual aid departments were notified including Central Crossing Fire Protection Dist, Shell Knob, Mo. and Holiday Island Ark. Fire.

“First arriving units found a fully engulfed structure, with flames visible from all sides. The homeowners were already out at the time of the fire.”

Despite their best efforts the home was a total loss.

EMS and Captains watched firefighters closely for heat exhaustion. One firefighter was transported by Mercy for heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. A second was treated on the scene.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Crews remained on scene for a number of hours.
