JOPLIN, MO – The Joplin Outlaws took down Fort Smith 3-2 in a tight contest on Tuesday night.

Outlaws pitcher Erik Heiken would shine against the Marshals, going 7.2 innings, striking out seven, and only allowing four hits. The Outlaws took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of a base hit from designated hitter Shu Kitagawa in the bottom half of the fourth. Joplin would lose the lead to Fort Smith in the sixth inning, but right fielder Jackson Purcell would tie the game at 2 with a solo home run in the seventh.

Kitagawa would end up plating the go ahead run in the eighth inning via a base hit that scored Carter Mize, and the Outlaws would end up winning the game 3-2.

With the home win, Joplin snaps a five game losing streak and pushes its record to 18-19. The Outlaws will host Fort Smith in game two on Wednesday, July 10th at 7:05 p.m.
