JOPLIN, MO – Over 100 student athletes would participate in a football prospect camp at Missouri Southern on Thursday evening.

The camp would start at 5:30 p.m., and Lions head coach Atiba Bradley and his players would lead it. Rising 9th-12th graders would take to the gridiron to practice various drills and workouts. Southern coaches and players would work closely with the high school athletes.

We had the chance to catch up with coach Bradley and a couple of his players on the importance of improving those who participated in the camp.

“We’re trying to help these kids get better. We want to make sure each one of these kids walk away from here with one nugget that makes them a better player for their high school teams. A byproduct of that is we get an opportunity to see them, you know, exercise the coaching that we’re giving them, and then apply the notes and the tips that we’re giving them. We get to see a little bit of recruiting, but it’s more for these guys and being able to apply something back to their seasons,” said Bradley.

“Kids camps are about having fun and trying to get them moving. But here, you can really get into some technique and some football stuff. It’s nice giving my knowledge to somebody else that might help them in the long run, said senior offensive lineman Kenneth Ferhrman.”

“We bonded, and I feel like I’ve automatically connected with all the kids. It feels like a family already, and we just met them today. We really started working together and it just made everything better,” said junior defensive end Jermaine Young.

The camp would be a one-day event, and last around three hours. All events would wrap up at 8:30 p.m., and all activities were non-padded for athletes.
