JOPLIN, MO — The City of Joplin is hosting their 7th Annual 1st Phorm Monster Games this weekend.

The Monster Games are a 3-day competition that started Friday and will wrap up tomorrow.

They utilize many of the great resources that Joplin has to offer like Schifferdecker Park and Schifferdecker Pool as well as Missouri Southern State University.

There are over 800 athletes competing who come from a wide variety of areas spanning across 40 different states and 6 different countries.

Today, inside the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center, it consisted of CrossFit style timed competitions.

Event Director Jason Ansley spoke about the exposure this competition brings to the City of Joplin over this three day period.

Jason Ansley said, “Well, Joplin has been great to us. So we work very closely with the Joplin Sports Authority. We work with the Joplin Convention and Visitors Bureau, and we have multiple meetings with them in the year. They’re very important to us. We’re very important to them. And so having that relationship, honestly, we couldn’t do it without them. And so when we bring those people in, they help us with hotels. They help us get food for our volunteers and staff that all come from out of town. And so all of those things and that combination of working with the city and we bring about a $2.5 million impact over a course of three days to the city of Joplin”.
