JOPLIN, MO — Today concluded the last youth camp of the summer for the Missouri Southern Men’s Basketball team as they helped give back to the community one more time with their “Youth Skills Camp”.

The camp started yesterday and wrapped up today. It ran from 9 to 12 this morning and was for kindergarteners all the way to 8th grade.

The camp was being run by the Missouri Southern coaching staff.

They took the kids through different drills like shooting, passing and ball handling.

They also ended the day playing some pickup games against one another.

We caught up with Head Coach Sam McMahon on what he tries to teach to the youth campers.

We also caught up with a few youth campers on what their favorite part of the camp is.

MSSU MBB Head Coach Sam McMahon said, “Just enjoy it. Have fun. Getting better. We always talk about four things, and one of those is always improving. But one is having fun and being a great teammate and then giving your absolute best effort. If you can do all those four things, you’re going to have a tremendous day. You’re going to have a tremendous camp. And all these kids have been doing that”.

“What’s your favorite part about the camp?”

MSSU Youth Camper Camden said, “Probably when we at the end, we forget to play the games and we get really competitive”.

“What do you enjoy most about basketball”?

MSSU Youth Camper Nolan said, “Learning about it and dribbling”.
