Car and train collide in Joplin-Webb City Industrial Park

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — About 2 p.m. Thursday reports of a car and train collision along Enterprise Ave alerted Joplin E-911.

Joplin Fire Dept, Joplin Police and METS ambulance responded. Webb City Police responded to assist as it was close to the jurisdiction line.

On scene in the 3400 block of Enterprise Ave we observe an MNA (Missouri Northern Arkansas) train stopped, across the roadway. On the east side of the train a passenger vehicle had been struck.

Joplin Police Traffic Officer C. Waters tells KOAM’s Shannon Becker the female driver was traveling east and attempted to cross the tracks with the oncoming northbound MNA train.

It was struck by the train, spinning the car 180° onto the south curb. “She was very lucky,” Ofc Waters said.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
