JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM)— 6 years ago today the Joplin Police received a report from a mother that her adult daughter, Sarah Burton, was missing. Since that day countless man hours have been spent investigating 150+ leads Capt William Davis of the Joplin Police Dept states in a release.

The Burton family released a heartfelt statement last year and it is important to share again as they ask the public for information.
“The definition of an anniversary is to celebrate an event. Sarah’s disappearance is no celebration of any kind. It has been 5 long years that have taken a huge impact on us, The Burton Family. Our Family will never be the same again. This situation is different, we don’t have any kind of closure. The thoughts that go through one's mind when their daughter goes missing is unbelievable. You don't know if she was yelling your name for help, or if you could have done something differently. You’re always wanting to turn back time. But there are no do-overs. We live in a small to medium size city, she should have been found or someone should have come forward. How could one keep this information inside them and function or sleep at night knowing a family is turned upside down. Sarah’s little boys, need their mom. What child doesn't need their mother? Going to School, having your mom is so important. Our Family is only requesting ONE thing from someone or anyone. Please and I can't express enough to give us CLOSURE . Information. Release this burden that's on your shoulders. Help put this family back together again. God Bless.” (2023) — SARAH BURTON FAMILY
Capt Davis emphasizes they are concerned for the safety and well-being of Sarah and ask anyone that has any information to contact Joplin Police.
Burton is now 33 years old. She is listed as a missing person in the U.S. Dept of Justice database via National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) as Sarah Elizabeth Burton #MP51615 .
