WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Former Purdue basketball coach Gene Keady has few achievements left to reap from a storied career in college sports, with the most recent being his induction into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

But there is one more accolade Keady will soon be able to claim: his own beer.

Indiana Sen. Ron Alting said he had a hand in bringing the project to fruition for the former coach, who he said had expressed interest in his own brew.

The beer will be produced by Sun King Brewing, marketing and promotions director Elizabeth Belange-Hood said Friday. The creation of the beer is still in the early stages of development, Belange-Hood said, so no details regarding the style of beer, artwork design or release date are available yet.

The Journal & Courier's attempts to reach Keady for this story were unsuccessful.

Alting said he will accompany Keady to Sun King, an Indianapolis-based brewery with several locations across the state and one in Sarasota, Florida, to the brewery's Indianapolis headquarters for a beer tasting.

"The week after next I'm bringing him down to Sun King," Alting said. "We'll do a tasting to see what the coach and his wife like and get that ball moving."
