A Peoria woman accused of providing the fentanyl that led to her 9-month old baby's death pled not guilty Thursday to charges of child endangerment.

Zenai Denise Lashayla Wolford, 19, is accused of knowingly causing her son, Kaine, to have ecstasy tablets that he ingested, which led to his death from fentanyl poisoning on July 26. According to the Peoria County State's Attorney's Office , Wolford was arrested after the Peoria Police Department entered her home and found a small bag in his crib that contained ecstasy pills.

Kaine was found unresponsive in his home at 12:26 a.m. that morning and was transported to OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center , where he was pronounced dead just over an hour later.

An autopsy conducted by Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood revealed that Kaine died from fentanyl intoxication and ruled his death a homicide.

Wolford was denied pre-trial release on July 30 after Circuit Judge Paul Gilfillan ruled that there weren't any set of conditions in which her release would protect minors or the elderly.

Wolford's trial is set for Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. If convicted, she faces up to 10 years in prison.
