Rising costs lead to end of complimentary bread at longtime Peoria restaurant

For regular customers at Avanti’s , receiving complimentary bread may seem like a typical part of the dining experience at the longtime Peoria establishment. It appears the practice, however, has come to an end.

Signs posted at the restaurant state: “Due to the increased cost of food and labor wages we no longer can offer complimentary bread in the dining room.”

Instead, the restaurant announced customers will receive a third of the regular portion with a pat of butter when they order:

    • Kids meal with pasta
    • Pasta meals
    • Entrees
    • Entrée salads

Customers can also order bread, according to the sign.

In a Peoria, IL Community Facebook post, commentors had differing opinions on the change. Some questioned why the restaurant would not raise menu prices to accommodate rising costs, while others expressed support for the business.

The Journal Star reached out to Avanti’s corporate phone for comment, but calls have not yet been returned.

Avanti's operates two locations in Peoria, plus restaurants in East Peoria and Pekin.
