CLEARWATER, Fla. (WANE) – So far, so good for Fort Wayne native Carter Mathison, as the former Homestead and I.U. Hoosiers slugger made his professional baseball debut Friday night.

Batting fifth for the Clearwater Threshers – the Single-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies – Mathison smacked a single up the middle in his first pro at.

Following Mathison’s hit the game was delayed due to lightening, and ultimately suspended for the night. The game will pick up again in the bottom of the first inning on Saturday as part of a doubleheader between the Threshers and the Jupiter Hammerheads.

Mathison was selected in the fifth round by the Phillies last month the 2024 MLB Draft. He was assigned to Clearwater on Thursday evening, clearing the way for his debut on Friday night.
