Honobia, Oklahoma Bigfoot Festival you may see a Bigfoot.

Honobia, Oklahoma is a small community a little north of where the Honobia Creek and the Little River meet, in southeast Oklahoma. Once a Choctaw settlement, the name Honobia was originally O-no-bi-a and is pronounced by the locals as Hoe-nubby.

Nestled deep in the picturesque Kiamichi Mountains, this very rural area is the perfect setting for the Annual Honobia Bigfoot Festival. It is a great place to unwind and have a great time enjoying the beautiful forest and green Oklahoma countryside. Most cell phones won’t work in this remote area and the nearest convenience store is over 15 miles away.

Jolly Winsor, one the organizers, says "The festival was started in '05 by Katy Cogburn, Lavelle Rose, Ronny Hammer, and my mother, Ruth Sands." Jolly is heavily involved in the festival and has watched it grow from a fundraising event for the Honobia valley to what it is today. By 2007 organizer Farlan Huff was adding campfire stories and guest speakers to the growing festival. With the rise in popularity, it was then decided to make the festival a nonprofit organization and named it, The Honobia Bigfoot Organization. Tom Hefner the 2013 sitting president of the organization, wanted to use some of the proceeds of the festival for scholarships for local high schools, as of today, over $55,000.00 have been awarded. In 2018 community outreach programs have benefited from over $6,500.00. Jolly feels the scholarships and community benefits will only continue to grow.
