2 accused of attempted murder near Kalamazoo

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man and woman are being held on attempted murder charges after an assault near Kalamazoo earlier this week, authorities say.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office says a Kalamazoo woman was “violently assaulted” in Comstock Township early Monday. She was rushed to hospital, where she underwent surgery. While her injuries were initially considered life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said she is now expected to live.

Authorities say there were two attackers, whom detectives ultimately identified and tracked down. Their names were not released Wednesday pending arraignment, but the sheriff’s office described them as a 44-year-old Portage woman and a 36-year-old Kalamazoo man. Both were jailed on charges including assault with intent to commit murder, kidnapping and armed robbery, as well as drug cases.

Arraignment could happen as early as Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said, but may not happen until Friday.
