Man hospitalized after being hit by car in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is in the hospital after he was hit by a car in Kalamazoo Friday night.

Around 10:20 p.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety were sent to the area of Portage Street north of East Cork Street after receiving reports that a pedestrian had been hit.

Responding officers learned that a southbound vehicle hit a man who was believed to be crossing the road.

The man was found unresponsive on the sidewalk. He was taken to the hospital. KDPS said he was last listed in critical condition.

Officers do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The driver is cooperation with the investigation, KDPS said.

The road was closed while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The road has since reopened.

The crash remains under investigation.
