It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.

Saia Expands Network with New Terminals in California and Iowa
Saia announced the opening of two new freight terminals, one in Stockton, California, and the other in Davenport, Iowa. These new terminals are part of Saia's growth strategy, which includes recent openings in Montana, New Jersey, Texas, and Utah. The company plans to open 18 to 21 terminals this year, and plans to spend its $1 billion capital expenditures budget on real estate, equipment, and IT projects.
Loring Hospital Contributes $28.27 Million To State Economy In 2023
Iowa hospitals play a central role in supporting their home community’s vitality, and Loring Hospital in Sac City is no exception, contributing an estimated $28.27 million to the state’s economy in 2023. According to a recent report released by the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), Loring Hospital supported 225 jobs throughout the state, 118 of which were direct employment at Loring. In total, the hospital paid $7.1 million in wages and benefits to staff, which is then spent locally to support area businesses. Dubuque Museum Grabs $10K Iowa Tourism Grant
Great news for the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium in Dubuque. They've just received a $10,000 grant from the Iowa Tourism Office, which is part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority. This money will help fund a special digital marketing campaign in Illinois and Wisconsin during the summer of 2024.
