    Clovis woman who kicked officer in the head gets prison

    CLOVIS, N.M. —  Cheryl Yazzie, 31, of Clovis was sentenced to one and a half years in the Department of Corrections for Battery on a peace officer, on Wednesday, July 3, the Ninth Judicial District Attorney, Quentin Ray announced in a press release.

    On May 12, officers with the Clovis Police Department placed Yazzie “under arrest for concealing identity” and was placed in the back seat of a patrol car, said the release.

    When Yazzie started kicking the windows, a Clovis PD officer opened the back door of the car and told her to stop kicking the windows, the release said. Yazzie then kicked the officer in the head while in the back seat of the patrol unit.

    According to the release, Honorable Judge Fred Van Soelen presided over the hearing and sentenced Yazzie to one and a half years in the Department of Corrections which include a habitual enhancement.

    The case was prosecuted by Special Prosecutor, Brett Carter and Yazzie was represented by Criminal defense attorney, Kaitlyn Cochran of Clovis.
