    Lubbock teen pleads guilty in ‘Ghetto Boys’ gang kidnapping

    LUBBOCK, Texas — David Miguel Lopez, Jr., 19, pleaded guilty on Thursday in connection with an armed kidnapping in Lubbock by members of a gang who called themselves the “Ghetto Boys.”

    Lopez pleaded guilty to Aggravated Kidnapping with a Deadly Weapon. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and will receive 181 days of credit for time spent behind bars.

    Court documents said a man reported to the Lubbock Police Department that he was kidnapped at gunpoint by members of the “Ghetto Boys” on August 21, 2022. The victim told police he thought he was kidnapped due to a fight over someone disrespecting his sister. The victim said a few weeks before the incident, he was involved in a fight with Ruben Botello at Rogers Park.

    The victim said he was outside talking to a friend on August 31 when someone drove up, got out of a vehicle and approached with weapons. The man tried to leave but was held at gunpoint and walked to the vehicle. While in the vehicle, the victim said two men hit him with their guns. Those two were identified as Lopez and Brett Comiskey.

    Kidnapping for ransom in Lubbock leads to federal charges for 3 teens

    The victim was taken to another location and forced inside a residence. According to court documents, he was assaulted by Lopez, Comiskey and about five other individuals. Court records said the victim told investigators, “They beat the hell out of me.”

    After the assault, Lopez and Comiskey put the victim in a truck and dropped him off near Rogers Park. The victim told authorities Comiskey said “Good luck.” The victim was injured and received treatment at the hospital.

    Comiskey was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Botello’s case was still active as of Thursday.

    Lopez was also previously accused of aggravated robbery for a separate incident in September of 2022. That charge was later dismissed.
