DALLAM COUNTY, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of Public Safety released information on an early Wednesday morning wreck in Dallam County that killed two people and injured one other.

According to Texas DPS, at approximately 5:40 a.m. a 2004 Toyota Sequoia driven by an 18-year-old of Dalhart was northbound on US 385, eight miles north of Dalhart when the driver allegedly “failed to drive in a single lane” and veered off the roadway and entered the east ditch. Officials noted that the driver attempted to get back onto the roadway however, the driver over-corrected the steering, causing the vehicle to enter a side skid and roll over multiple times.

DPS officials stated the two passengers, 19-year-old Benjamin Lux and 29-year-old Camaja Ortiz of Dalhart, who were not secured by seatbelts were ejected from the vehicle as a result of the rollover. Both Lux and Ortiz died at the scene of the crash.

The driver was injured as a result of the crash and transported to a local hospital, according to officials, with serious injuries.

The crash was noted by officials as still under investigation.
