AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Police Department reports that one man was arrested following a chase with police in an alleged stolen vehicle that ended in a wreck that seriously injured another person.

According to police, on Friday morning, APD officers were called to the 2500 block of Britain on stolen vehicle that the owner was tracking on GPS.

Police found the vehicle in the area of I-27 and Western and tried to stop the driver, identified as Jeremiah Medina. The Medina kept going and turned the wrong way on the access road and hit another vehicle.

Medina got out of the vehicle and continued to run on foot said police, before he was stopped by employees at a nearby business.

Ceyton McEwen, an employee of Five Star Transmission came out to see what happened. When Medina began to flee, McEwen ran after him and tackled Medina to the ground.

“All I really could think was, what if that’s someone I know or my family, and how would I want that handled for them? So I went out and did what I needed to,” said MeEwen.

Medina was arrested by police shortly after and taken to the hospital for treatment of his injuries before being taken to the Randall County Jail. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Medina was arrested for “Unauthorized Use of Motor Vehicle, Evading arrest/detention in Vehicle, Accident causing injury/death, and Assault on Hospital Personnel.”

McEwen said that when something like this happens the community needs to do what they can to help.

“Anyone can help. I mean, you see something that needs it just do it, nothing to it,” explained McEwen.
