Search continues for suspect who stole truck in Kansas City, dragging, killing the owner

Police continue to search for the alleged thief who stole a pickup truck Wednesday afternoon in Kansas City, dragging and killing the owner who was attempting to stop the theft.

Kansas City police said on Friday afternoon that investigators are making progress on the case, but are still trying to determine what led up to the incident. They’re also still trying to determine if there was any relationship between the victim and suspect, according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, a police spokesperson.

No suspect information has been released.

Police said the incident happened around 1 p.m. Wednesday in the 2900 block of The Paseo, near Troost Park.

The investigation has revealed that as the suspect drove the truck, the victim was dragged with the vehicle. They were eventually dislodged and thrown to the pavement. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver left the scene with the truck, but the vehicle was later found in Kansas City.
