The discount retailer Big Lots is closing two Kansas City area stores.

The affected locations are at 13637 Washington St. in south Kansas City and 7533 State Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas.

Employees at both stores confirmed the closing but said they hadn’t been told when the last day of business would be. The south Kansas City location had yellow “Closing” signs up inside and outside the store Wednesday, but the shelves were still fully stocked with items including home goods, electronics, decor and toys.

Clearance sales are underway at both locations, with everything between 10% and 30% off.

Big Lots warned investors in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing last month that it planned to close about 40 stores in the U.S. this year. The company cited a “pullback in consumer spending by our core customers, particularly in high ticket discretionary items.”

Other Big Lots in the metro have not announced intentions to close. Those include one in the Northland at 4826 N. Oak Trafficway, in Lee’s Summit at 901 E. Langsford Road, in Shawnee at 7408 Nieman Road, in Blue Springs at 603 S.W. U.S. Highway 40, in Olathe at 140 S. Clairborne Road, and in Independence at 4201 S. Noland Road.
