Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman BJ Thompson was released from the hospital Monday (June 10) night, less than one week after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest , his agent, Chris Turnage , confirmed to NFL Network 's Tom Pelissero .

"More good news: Four days after suffering a seizure and going into cardiac arrest during a meeting, #Chiefs DL BJ Thompson was released from the hospital tonight, per his agent Chris Turnage. A significant step for Thompson, who continues to progress on the road to recovery," Pelissero wrote on his X account. "Turnage added: “The family thanks everyone for their prayers and wants to especially thank the Chiefs medical and training staff for their rapid response and professionalism throughout this situation.”

Thompson, 25, who was selected by the Chiefs at No. 166 overall in the fifth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft and appeared in one game during his rookie season, was initially reported to be in stable condition after being quickly treated by the team's medical staff before an ambulance was called last Thursday (June 6), according to Pelissero . The former Stephen F. Austin State University standout wasn't initially named, but identified as "a backup defensive lineman," in the initial report of the medical incident, which resulted in practice being canceled.

The Chiefs were in Phase 3 of their voluntary offseason program at the time with mandatory minicamp scheduled to start on Tuesday (June 11). Kansas City is four months removed from winning its second consecutive Super Bowl and third in five years during a 25-22 overtime win against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
