    Impairment under investigation after overnight motorcycle crash in Kansas City

    KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A man and woman are fighting for their lives after they were ejected off of a motorcycle early Tuesday morning.

    The man was driving a motorcycle northbound on 71 Highway around 1:20 a.m. Tuesday when he drove off the right side of Gregory Boulevard.

    According to police, he hit the curb on the concrete island of Gregory. Police said he hit the base of a traffic light pole and kept moving northeast before hitting another curb. He and a woman passenger were then thrown from the motorcycle.

    When the passenger was ejected, her body hit the pole of a traffic sign. The driver was wearing a helmet, but it is unknown if the woman was wearing a helmet.

    According to police, the driver received life-threatening injuries, and the passenger received critical injuries. Both were taken to a hospital. Police said impairment is under investigation.
