Patrick Mahomes has become the league's top quarterback thanks to his strong arm and elusive running, but his style of play had one very prominent early doubter -- his own mother.

Randi Mahomes recently opened up about the doubts she had about her son's scrambling and whether it would be a sustainable style for the NFL. In an appearance on The Mom Game Podcast’ with Julie Dobbs and Emily Jones , Randi Mahomes said she wasn't sure Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was right to give her son the green light to scramble.

“Even the first couple years with the Chiefs, I would say I don’t think you’re supposed to do that, like scramble around, running around, and he was like coach Reid [said] it works, do it," Randi Mahomes said. "I’m like, okay, but I don’t think you’re supposed to do it, but okay.”

Randi's doubts were soon proven wrong as Mahomes was named league MVP in his first full season as the team's starter in 2018. He went on to earn three Super Bowl titles, six Pro Bowl nods and a second MVP season.

Mahomes also managed to continue his elusive style of play while avoiding major injuries, appearing in 96 total games over his six seasons as starter for the Chiefs.
