Super Bowl Champ Names 1 Condition For Patrick Mahomes To Pass Tom Brady As GOAT

One former Super Bowl winner believes that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes could attain GOAT status as early as next season.

11-year NFL veteran Chris Canty recently made the case during a recent episode of his "Unsportsmanlike" show on ESPN radio (H/T Heena Singh of Essentially Sports).

Canty had crafted a list of five players in sports who most need a ring. He ranked San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan first, Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid second, and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson third.

Canty's co-host Evan Cohen argued that Mahomes, who wasn't on the list, had the most to gain from winning another Super Bowl ring. He made the case that Mahomes would instantly become the second-greatest player of all time.

Canty disagreed with Cohen, but only because he wanted to take it a step further.

"No, no. He would be the top. ... You three-peat in the NFL? Yeah, you're the GOAT. You're the GOAT. I mean, if he wins three championships in a row in the NFL, in a league that is designed more so than any of these other sports leagues, to have parity. If he wins three in a row ... then he's the damn GOAT."

Canty knows a thing or two about both Brady and winning a Super Bowl. The former defensive end was part of the 2011 New York Giants team that beat Brady at Super Bowl XLVI.

Vince Lombardi's Green Bay Packers were the last team to win three straight titles from 1965 to 1967. If Mahomes could make history and capture the first three-peat in the Super Bowl era, he'd have one feather in his cap Brady can never top.
