The KSO recruit of the week this week is Kansas City, Missouri defensive back and Kansas State commit RJ Collins .

    NAME : RJ Collins
    RANKING: UR
    CLASS: 2025
    POSITION: Defensive back
    HOMETOWN: Kansas City, Missouri
    HIGH SCHOOL: Staley
    POWER FOUR OFFERS: Kansas State
    COMMITTED: Kansas State

    Recruiting summary

Staley High School defensive back RJ Collins’ recruitment didn’t last long.

The Missouri native camped at Iowa State, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota State, North Dakota State and Kansas State. After his performance in Manhattan, he was offered by head coach Chris Klieman , defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman and the Wildcats.

Shortly after receiving the offer, the rising senior set a commitment date of the Fourth of July and picked K-State.

    Evaluation of Kansas State target

Speed, speed, speed. Collins is so fast and not just on the football field but on the track as well.

He runs a 4.4 40-yard dash as well as a shuttle time at 4.13. This past spring on the track Collins really shined by winning the 200-meter dash at a time of 21.23, which was a Missouri Class 5 state meet record top 20 all-time in Missouri. He also finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.56.

While listed as a cornerback, I believe his future home could be free safety. Klanderman wants his free safeties to have the exact traits that he possesses – speed, fearlessness in the box and the ability to apply man coverage.

It is why we have seen some cornerbacks turned to free safety before at Kansas State, such as Josh Hayes , Marques Sigle and recently in the high school ranks Callen Barta . Collins could follow in those footsteps.

I am also very impressed with his physicality. He was able to show that off at the K-State camp and really flashed. He is not afraid to put his face in and hit hard. Playing wide receiver has also helped him. Collins is great when the ball is in the air and attacks it with a purpose.

    Prediction

None needed. Collins already committed to Kansas State.
