Rare NFL Rookie Card Fetches Huge Price At Auction

There's not a player in the NFL right now who is more well-known than Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes if you exclude his teammate Travis Kelce, boyfriend of global sensation Taylor Swift.

Meanwhile, sports trading cards remain a huge industry, with rare special editions worth big money at auction. The latest example was a rare Mahomes rookie card that, according to TMZ Sports, went for a whopping $173,000 at auction.

They note that the card is truly rare with only 10 in existence. Made by Panini, the card includes a nearly perfect Mahomes autograph and a piece of his jersey.

While this number is impressive, it's nowhere near the most paid for a Mahomes rookie card. That honor would go to the 2017 Panini National Treasure Rookie Patch card.

That card went for a whopping $4.3 million at auction.

Mahomes is easily the most marketable player in the NFL right now. This is due in large part to the massive success the Chiefs have had on the field.

Kansas City heads into the 2025 season hoping to be the first team to win three Super Bowls in a row. If this happens, the value of Mahomes' cards will continue to skyrocket.
