During an appearance on the debut episode of The Athletic's "Scoop City" podcast, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid explained how All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce has handled potential off-the-field issues related to dating entertainment superstar Taylor Swift.

"I think it’s great for him," Reid said about Kelce's relationship with Swift, per Dianna Russini of The Athletic. "He can handle it. Matter of fact, I think he probably loves it. To a point. I think there’s a great escape for him. I said that about Taylor, too. I mean, she comes to the game, she can kind of escape having to be the show. And Travis can do that. And when he goes to her concerts, she’s a star. And he can be hanging out there and be the support or the waterboy."

Kelce insisted throughout last fall his spending time with Swift caused no distractions for the Chiefs. While Kansas City ultimately repeated as Super Bowl champions, it was reported in February that some within the organization "privately" worried about Kelce's "high-demand schedule" that included "a midseason trip to Argentina to see Swift in concert" and having "to completely move out of his house" for reasons related to safety.

Along with dating one of the most famous people in the world, Kelce landed an acting role in the FX horror series "Grotesquerie" and was revealed as the host of Amazon’s "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" show this offseason. Plenty of coaches may not love their players embracing such opportunities, but Reid seems to understand Kelce is no longer a standard sports star.

"I’m OK with it … as long as they’re ready to go," Reid said about players staying focused on Kansas City's pursuit of a Super Bowl three-peat. "And so training camp is kind of that proving ground. If you’re not ready to go, it’s going to be obvious quickly. Just from the whether it’s a conditioning test or the long drive drills that we do. Those things that are, you’re going to find out who’s in and who’s not in and who’s put their time."

Kelce sounds committed to chasing a fourth career Super Bowl ring but could ride off into the sunset of retirement next offseason when he'll be 35 years old. His body may eventually betray him before he calls time on his Hall of Fame career, but there's no reason to believe his ongoing relationship with Swift will cause any significant problems for the Chiefs between now and Super Bowl LIX in February 2025.
