Kansas City Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy is good to go as rookies, quarterbacks and injured players reported to Missouri Western State University at the onset of training camp on Tuesday.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid confirmed to reporters that Worthy would make his return to the practice field as camp begins with closed practices on Wednesday. This comes after Worthy missed the majority of OTAs and mandatory minicamp while he nursed a hamstring injury .

Reid spoke on the opportunity presented by the early start for Worthy and other rookies on the team.

"Yeah, this is great," Reid said. "I think it's just great to get in and become more familiar. They can go through it one more time before the veterans come in and everything is going 100 miles per hour. It's slowed down. They'll get the same installs, the first three installs for when the vets get in. I think it's a real positive for everybody, especially for Xavier (Worthy), who didn't have the opportunity to be out on the field. Just going through those routes and doing what he needs to do there will also be positive.

Worthy had an opportunity to take "mental repetitions" during OTAs and mandatory minicamp. He was often posted next to Matt Nagy during practice, who would go through plays with him as they happened. Nagy would ask Worthy what his responsibilities would be on a given play had he been on the field in that particular role.

Now, Worthy doesn't get to play pretend and his quarterback is certainly ready for that aspect to be over. He made it clear that he won't be holding back on the rookie receiver and that there will be no coddling as he gets acclimated after missing time.

"There's no easing," Mahomes insisted. "He's going to have to be ready to go. There's a lot of competition. Xavier (Worthy) got a lot of mental work in these last few weeks he had during OTAs and minicamp, but it's time to go now. Y'all saw Rashee (Rice) last year and the 'throwing up days' he had. We're going to push you to the limit to get yourself ready to go for the season. That's not just him. That's everybody. Everybody has to have that mentality for camp."

The mentality that the Chiefs approach training camp with is that this is an opportunity to get better every single day. It's not supposed to be easy and even with Worthy missing some time, he's not going to be afforded any luxuries. He's going to have to lock in and push himself every single day, just like the rest of the team will.
