The Kansas City Chiefs have added another potential offensive weapon.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday the Chiefs signed former Division II wide receiver Kyle Sheets. The wideout will join the team at training camp, which Chiefs players reporting for Tuesday.

"I am thrilled for Kyle to get this chance to learn from a coach like Andy Reid and be part of a championship organization like the Kansas City Chiefs," said SRU head coach Shawn Lutz, via rockathletics.com . "He earned the opportunity, and we can't wait to follow his progress in the coming weeks."

Sheets started his NFL career with a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints after going undrafted in April.

He now joins a Chiefs offense which struggled significantly at wide receiver last season. But despite those struggles, Kansas City won its second straight Super Bowl.

Sheets, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds, posted 76 catches for 1,186 yards and 17 touchdowns in 14 games last season. He finished his career at Slippery Rock with 154 receptions, 2,440 receiving yards and 29 scores.

Sheets is joining a Kansas City offense that does expect to be a lot better at wide receiver this season. The Chiefs selected Xavier Worthy in the first round of the draft and added Marquise Brown in NFL free agency.

Kansas City also has receivers Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, Mecole Hartman and Justyn Ross returning from last year's roster.
