Andy Reid explains why Chiefs don't do joint practices with other teams

It's training camp time, and that means joint practices between NFL teams is also on the docket. Most teams engage in these, because it's a good way to find out how well the stuff you're trying to install will work against offenses and defenses you're not calling.

But two teams are not about that. The Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders prefer to keep their practices in-house. On Tuesday, Andy Reid explained exactly why the Chiefs don't engage.

“I think the way we go about it – I think we go fast, we practice hard, we do those things amongst ourselves, and the guys challenge each other, and I don’t think there’s a better way to do it, if your guys are willing to do that. Our guys are up for that challenge, plus you’re not giving things away, so you can’t help but do that. Then you’re not having those skirmishes that you get in these inner squad deals, and no matter how much you talk - you put on a different uniform, you’re the enemy. It doesn’t matter if it’s during joint practices or not.”

The first time the Chiefs will see an opponent in the 2024 preseason is when they take on the Jacksonville Jaguars in Jacksonville on Saturday, August 10.
