A lot of people said the league messed up when they allowed the Kansas City Chiefs to draft Texas WR Xavier Worthy. We got the first real taste of that on Sunday during the team's first full training camp practice .

During an 11-on-11 team drill between the first-team offense and the first-team defense, Mahomes and Worthy connected on a play that can only be described as "classic Mahomes." Mahomes faced near-immediate pressure from veteran DT Mike Pennel, and the talented gunslinger escaped the pressure by rolling out to his left.

As he's rolling out, Mahomes finds the rookie receiver coming open in 1-on-1 coverage against third-year safety Bryan Cook. Mahomes uncorks an off-platform 50-yard-plus bomb to Worthy, who manages to make the catch in stride for a major touchdown.

Our friends at KC Sports Network captured the best angle of the play during practice. Check it out:

If you're not convinced by the reaction from the crowd, just look at how Worthy's teammates and coaches on offense react to the play. Matt Nagy, Travis Kelce, and Mahomes certainly had the best reactions to the exciting moment for the young wide receiver.

Chiefs HC Andy Reid discusses Worthy in his post-practice press conference

Worthy, of course, missed all of OTAs and mandatory minicamp with a hamstring injury. You wouldn't be able to tell from this play, or the ones that he made during the rookie headstart at training camp over the past week .

"Yeah, he's been working hard," Reid told reporters after practice. "It looks like his hamstring feels better. Just gotta keep him going here and keep learning. We're just one install into it and they've got 12 of them. So, he's got a lot more information coming, formations and shifts and motions and all that stuff. So but you know, he did a nice job today."

This is just the first step of a long process for the rookie and Mahomes building something special this offseason. He'll have to prove he can continue to make these types of plays once the pads come on this Friday.
