Patrick Mahomes and Xavier Worthy Are Gonna Be a Problem for NFL Defenses

One of the highlights of the 2024 NFL draft process was watching Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy break the NFL Scouting Combine record in the 40-yard dash , running his in a blazing 4.21 seconds.

For some strange reason, even after seeing that, the Buffalo Bills thought it would be a good idea to trade down with the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round, allowing them to snatch up Worthy and put him on the other end of passes from Patrick Mahomes.

It was the Bills who swapped spots with the Chiefs in the 2017 draft so they could take Mahomes at No. 10 overall, and while this mistake might not be quite that bad, it's still a head-scratcher for a team that hasn't been able to topple the Chiefs in the postseason ever since.

Mahomes hasn't had a true No. 1 receiver outside of tight end Travis Kelce since the Chiefs traded away Tyreek Hill, but Worthy has the kind of game-breaking speed and big-play explosiveness that made Hill such a dynamic weapon.

The early returns are coming in from training camp , and it looks like the rest of the league is in big trouble:

Obviously, it's just one highlight from a practice, but this play illustrates just how dangerous the connection can be between Mahomes and his combination of improvisation and elite arm strength, and Worthy's rare deep speed that even the best NFL defensive backs will struggle to keep up with down the field.

It's unfair to compare anyone to Tyreek, especially as a rookie, but Worthy has the skill set and opportunity to finally fill that void for Mahomes and the Chiefs.

Opposing defenses won't be too thrilled.
