The Kansas City Chiefs wrapped Day 2 of training camp practice on Monday, July 22.

Today marked one of two sold-out exclusive season ticket member practices during the course of training camp. Unfortunately, those fans who were attracted to camp to get a look at first-round rookie WR Xavier Worthy after his impressive debut on Sunday were left wanting.

Worthy did not participate in practice on Monday. Thankfully, this wasn't a setback on the hamstring injury that kept him out of training camp. The Chiefs' PR staff confirmed that his absence on Monday was due to an illness.

Chiefs CB Kelvin Joseph was also missing from practice on Day 2. The team confirmed that he was excused from practice on Monday. Both Worthy and Joseph should be back out on the field in due time. Joseph's absence allowed for second-year CB Ekow Boye-Doe to get some work with the second-team defense on Monday.

There were a few more significant injury updates to come in post-practice press conferences, including some news about a veteran starter who landed on the Non-Football Injury (NFI) list.

Steve Spagnuolo talks about Chiefs S Justin Reid's injury

Chiefs S Justin Reid landing on the NFI list with a quad injury was a bit of a surprise at the onset of training camp practices. Shortly after Day 1 of practice, he took to X (formerly Twitter) to provide an update on the injury situation.

From Reid's message, it doesn't sound like he'd be absent for a long period, but Steve Spagnuolo's comments on Monday raise some concerns. Could he miss an extended chunk of training camp and the preseason? If he does, at the very least it means that rookie S Jaden Hicks will be getting a lot of repetitions in his absence.

"I mean, J. Reid, you know, we're not going to have for a little bit here," Spags told reporters. "And so it's a blessing and a curse right J. Reid doesn't get the reps but somebody else gets those reps. And right now, it's Jaden that has benefited from it."

As far as Reid is concerned, Spagnuolo told him to take this as an opportunity to sharpen his mental and mastery of the playbook.

"I told him we can use this as a positive and just have him dig deeper into the playbook," Spags said. "Like, not just learn his position, learn the others. He does that anyway. I mean, you guys know, J. Reid's a pretty sharp dude. But he's gonna have to stay in tune. Him and Jaylen (Watson), you know, if you notice, they can't be involved in anything. But I noticed that today, when we're doing a walkthrough, they're back there and physically in their mind and move around into it. That's really important."

Chiefs LB Nick Bolton's shocking 2023 injury recap

Bolton enters his fourth NFL season healthy, but that wasn't the case last year. In fact, I'm not sure anyone truly realized the extent to which Bolton dealt with injuries during the course of the 2023 NFL season. He missed some time and had Drue Tranquill fill in during his absence, but Bolton revealed that he felt most of the season, he couldn't use the entire left side of his body to its fullest ability.

"Yeah, not being able to use my whole left side, man," Bolton revealed. "I had my wrist messed up with a cast on it. I had bursitis in my elbow, my left ankle (was also hurt). So, I'm kind of hobbling trying to get through a little Humpty Dumpty all the way to the Super Bowl. So, I was trying to find a way to make a play, get out there and give my teammates a chance to win. So, that's kind of what I was going through last year."

The wrist, elbow, and ankle are all healed now, but there's little doubt that 2023 was a challenging time for No. 32. Bolton added that his only limitations as far as injuries are concerned right now are mental ones. Those are things that he has to work to get over quickly so that he can compete to the fullest extent at training camp and during the preseason.
