Chiefs Make Eye-Opening Change On Frustrating Patrick Mahomes Weapon In Training Camp

The Kansas City Chiefs regrouped at receiver after winning their second consecutive Super Bowl. Not only did they add rock-solid veteran wideout Hollywood Brown in free agency, but the Chiefs also took University of Texas burner Xavier Worthy late in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

With superstar tight end Travis Kelce and promising sophomore wide receiver Rashee Rice returning, Patrick Mahomes might have more dangerous weapons at his disposal than at any time in his momentous Kansas City career.

Where does the Chiefs' newfound depth at receiver leave the uber-talented, largely frustrating Kadarius Toney as the 2024 season fast approaches? Taking additional snaps at running back early in training camp, apparently.

"[Toney] had some pretty good snaps for us at running back last year," coach Andy Reid told reporters on Tuesday, per Nate Taylor of The Athletic. "I think he enjoys doing that.”

Toney, a 2021 first-round pick of the New York Giants, entered last season earmarked as the Chiefs' No. 1 wideout. He disappointed throughout 2023, though, most notably dropping what should have been an easy catch for a pick-six in KC's season-opening loss to the Detroit Lions, then lining up offsides against the Buffalo Bills on what otherwise would've been a game-winning touchdown.

The 6-foot, 193-pounder ended his first full season with the Chiefs as a healthy scratch for Super Bowl LVIII. Expect Toney to continue battling for snaps at training camp, whether lining up at receiver or in the backfield.
