Chiefs TE Travis Kelce practices signature play with Isiah Pacheco during Day 5 of training camp

Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce is up to his old tricks again at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, joining teammates like Xavier Worthy and Jared Wiley with a highlight-reel moment during practice.

Over the years, we've seen Kelce get creative with his on-field improvisation on pitches, laterals, and hook-and-ladder plays. There was the play to Shady McCoy against the Lions in 2019, the lateral to Noah Gray on "Thursday Night Football" last season, and the infamous Kadarius Toney offside play . Kelce just has a knack for knowing when to get his teammates involved and getting them the ball after he makes a catch.

He was able to showcase that once again with a pitch play to RB Isiah Pacheco after making an impressive catch and getting wrapped up during practice on Friday. The throw from Mahomes, to work back across his body while rolling out to the left was just as impressive.

The team shared their angle of the play shortly after the conclusion of practice:

It was a heads-up moment by Kelce and Pacheco, which had the potential to go for a touchdown had it not been whistled dead by the referee on the right sideline.

The timing of the play looked as if the referee ruled that Pacheco went out of bounds, but in actuality, this might have been a forward lateral by Kelce. It also could have been ruled that his progress was stopped before the pitch.

Whatever the case may be, it sure feels like the referees ruined what could have been a fun moment during the first padded training camp practice of the season. Either way, this fun play just serves as a reminder that all the improvised creativity that you see on your TV screens on Sundays throughout the season all starts at the training grounds at Missouri Western State University. That chemistry and the confidence to make those types of plays is built annually in July and August.
