Travis Kelce 'prideful' to retain his workload from previous seasons

For veteran players, knowing that their bodies are starting to feel all the hits they have taken is not a pleasant thought. Father time is undefeated, but for some, the idea of holding him off remains possible.

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce remains “prideful” about it. Speaking at training camp this week, the veteran tight end discussed his workload over his career and how his body is starting to feel.

"Last year was pretty taxing on my body," Kelce said after the Kansas City Chiefs finished a training camp practice at Missouri Western State University on Saturday. "I've had more snaps than a lot of guys if not everybody in the NFL over the past five, six years, and I'm very prideful of that, but I know it has taken a toll on my body.”

Kelce goes on to acknowledge that being on the Chiefs he knows their seasons can be up to 20 games with their playoff runs added to their regular season schedule. He is entering his 12th season in the NFL, all with the Chiefs, and he has remained healthy throughout those years.

The Chiefs have started drafting tight ends in recent years despite his consistency as a security measure at the position. Noah Gray was drafted in 2021, and this year, they drafted Jared Wiley out of TCU in the fourth round.

While the Chiefs seem ready for whatever happens with Kelce, the veteran tight end hopes to hold off those around him who are vying for extra snaps.
