A pedestrian was struck and killed Wednesday morning near Missouri 210 Highway and N. Norfleet Road.

Kansas City, Missouri, police said officers received a call not long after 5:30 a.m. to the Northland Industrial Park area on a non-injury crash.

A silver Ram 1500 stopped in the westbound lanes of 210 just before the light at N. Norfleet and was rear-ended by a black Hyundai Accent that was unable to stop in time.

Both drivers then exited their vehicles to call police.

While waiting, the driver of the Hyundai, who was standing on the yellow line/south shoulder of the roadway just outside his driver's side door, was struck by a grey Chevy Silverado traveling west on 210.

The driver of the Chevy said they did not see the Hyundai's flashers "until the last second" when they swerved to the left and struck the driver, police said.

The pedestrian/Hyundai driver died at the scene.

All westbound lanes of 210 were closed for several hours.

This incident marks the 55th traffic fatality of the year.
