Patrick Mahomes' new star receiver embarrassed as viral clip emerges in worrying sign

The Kansas City Chiefs are going to need first-round wide receiver Xavier Worthy in his rookie season , where he is projected to be a starter with the team... but new clips that have emerged from training camp might suggest the speedster has much to work on.

The fastest player to ever enter the NFL Draft, Worthy is seen as an exciting playmaker but one with glaring flaws to his game. Weighing just 165lbs, Worthy will be one of the lightest wide receivers in the league - with many worrying about his ability to play in the NFL against bigger corners.

And while clips have been shared of the speedy receiver getting open for touchdowns down the field, one specific video has shown that the 21-year-old is going to have issues once he steps onto the field on Sundays.

Defensive backs have not been allowed to touch Worthy through the preseason up until this point, with the NFL having extremely stringent rules and regulations of no contact throughout practice sessions. But with teams now in training camp, the pads are on with defensive players allowed to lay hits on wide receivers, as well as putting their hands on them at the line of scrimmage.

This, in particular, had always been a question when it had come to Worthy... how would he deal with playing against press coverage in the NFL against defensive backs that might have as much as 40lbs of muscle on him? Would he struggle similarly to 2023 first-round rookie Emmanuel Forbes Jr had at defensive back, in a similar position being undersized?

In what we've seen so far, fans should be excited about his potential... while it's equally right to be slightly concerned.

In a clip recorded from Chiefs' training camp on Wednesday, Worthy is seen jammed at the line of scrimmage - taken off the course of his route by a cornerback before a linebacker lays a quick hit on him and sends him to the ground. Within seconds, Worthy is completely taken out of the play.

Intriguingly, Worthy had been in with the number one offense for this play, with Patrick Mahomes and the starting offensive line and fellow receivers in Hollywood Brown and Rashee Rice - suggesting Kansas City will hope to put him in an important role from day one.

And while it's only one play, Worthy's lack of size and strength is undoubtedly going to be an issue in the NFL - with defensive coordinators around the league knowing that they have the capabilities of taking him out of plays with physicality.

It's a risky process, though, playing that way against the Chiefs.

As mentioned, Worthy has the speed and technique to make defensive backs miss, and if they do, good luck trying to catch him - with numerous clips being shared of the former Texas star getting behind the defense for big-play scores.

Worthy is not exactly the first of his kind when it comes to being a slighter, outside receiver. DeSean Jackson made an incredible NFL career out of relying on his speed to create big plays - with defenses needing to account for him whenever he was on the field.

At 21 years old, Worthy has time to figure out the type of player he wants to be in the NFL, but it might be wise to temper expectations ahead of his rookie year.
