This Bills’ Move Was Named The Worst of The NFL Offseason

Like every team in the AFC, the goal of the Buffalo Bills is to take down the Kansas City Chiefs. The two-time defending Super Bowl champions have appeared in the AFC Championship Game for six straight seasons.

Since Patrick Mahomes has taken over as the starting quarterback, they have become the gold standard in the NFL. In three of those seasons, the Chiefs won the Super Bowl.

In three out of those six seasons, the Bills have been eliminated from the postseason by Kansas City. All of the moves they make in the offseason should be about getting past and defeating the Chiefs in the postseason.

However, there was one move that Buffalo made that left a lot of people scratching their heads. During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bills had a clear need for some playmakers.

They overhauled their wide receiver depth chart in free agency, with Gabe Davis signing with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Stefon Diggs being traded to the Houston Texans. To replace them, Buffalo signed Curtis Samuel, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins, Chase Claypool and K.J. Hamler.

The opportunity to select one of the top wide receivers in the first round was presented to the Bills. They waited instead until the second round to select Florida State star Keon Coleman.

Also seeking help at wide receiver this offseason were the Chiefs. They were fortunate that Rashee Rice broke out as a rookie because none of their other young pass catchers were able to put it together in 2023.

Inexplicably, the Buffalo helped Kansas City address that issue. They made a trade in the first round, with the Chiefs acquiring the No. 28 overall pick. They used that selection on Texas speedster Xavier Worthy, filling the only void on their offense.

It was a trade that the Bills were ridiculed for at the time and continued to be during the summer. During a recent segment on The Carton Show on FS1, Craig Carton shared his five worst moves of the 2024 NFL offseason. Coming in at No. 1 was the Buffalo draft day trade.

It is hard to argue against Carton making that the No. 1 selection. Things can certainly work out with Coleman, but aiding their biggest obstacle to winning the AFC is perplexing.

The Bills and all of their AFC counterparts couldn’t get past the Chiefs when they had issues offensively. How are they going to defeat them now with all of the talent they have added to their passing game?
