Man Arrested at Morgan Wallen Concert for ‘Terroristic Threat’ in Kansas City

UPDATED : A man was arrested Friday at Morgan Wallen’s concert at Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium after making a “terroristic threat” that caused a 45-minute delay to the headliner’s set. While a source close to the situation told Variety that the threat was against Wallen, an announcement from the Jackson County Prosecutor states that the alleged targets were “two individuals who were members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization.” Chiefs stars Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes both attended the show and walked out of the dressing room with Wallen.

According to court records , the source of the threat was a post on X from the account @gooeybag noticed by Kansas City law-enforcement official monitoring threats made at the concert, which read in part: “Mr. [redacted] at Arrowhead with the wife. If he brings out [redacted] or [redacted] I’ll take the fuckin shot.” The report notes that the two intended victims were present at the stadium at the time the message was posted. The concert was delayed until the account’s user, Illinois resident Aaron Brown, was identified through information shared with law-enforcement by X and apprehended.

The prosecutor’s statement reads: “Aaron Brown of Winchester, Ill, faces a Class E felony of Making a Terroristic Threat in the 2nd Degree. According to court records, Kansas City police detectives and intelligence analysts in the Kansas City Fusion Center working at GEHA field at Arrowhead on Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, officers were monitoring threats at a planned concert when they observed on X (Twitter) a threat against two individuals, who were members of the Kansas City Chiefs organization, were present at the event.

“The defendant confirmed to police where he was located at Arrowhead. The concert was delayed for 40 minutes while the defendant was located. The defendant was charged earlier today and a $15,000 bond was set.”

According to court records, Brown and his girlfriend were present at the concert and, after being contacted by phone, initially did not cooperate with law-enforcement. But upon being approached by officers, Brown confirmed his identity and was placed under investigative hold. Brown later told officers the post was a “stupid, stupid, stupid mistake.” His girlfriend elaborated that she had advised him not to send it but he did anyway, saying “no one would see it,” although he later deleted it. She insisted he meant no harm.

Kelce — who is f amously dating Taylor Swift — and Mahomes walked out of the dressing room with Wallen, who wore his own bespoke Chiefs jersey with the number seven on the front. Although the jersey number is also that of Chiefs player Harrison Butker — who caused a firestorm of controversy over his commencement speech at Benedictine College that many perceived to be misogynist — it was Wallen’s number as a high school baseball player.

While some fans criticized Wallen for delaying the show due to “hanging out with Chiefs players” and a source tells Variety that the concert was nearly canceled five minutes before it was due to begin, the prosecutor’s statements says the delay was due to law enforcement. Kelce was seen enjoying the show and singing along enthusiastically in fan footage posted online.

Reps for Wallen, promoter Live Nation, the Chiefs organization and Kansas City police either did not immediately respond to Variety ‘s requests for comment or deferred to law enforcement.
