Chiefs Fans Are Very Conflicted Over Jon Gruden Sighting

The Kansas City Chiefs have made plenty of headlines during training camp as they embark on the quest for that ever-so-special Super Bowl three-peat.

But, the Chief certainly raised plenty of eyebrows with a special guest who appeared at practice on Sunday. It was former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Las Vegas Raiders head coach Jon Gruden.

Gruden resigned from the Raiders after emails regarding misogynistic and homophobic comments surfaced , and it has been an ongoing legal battle ever since.

So, Jon Gruden's face appearing at Chiefs practice was quite a surprise, especially since he was covered in Kansas City gear.

Gruden spent two stints coaching the Raiders, the Chiefs' AFC West foe, so fans have every right to have trouble digesting him wearing their gear.

He was there from 1998-2001, and then again from 2018-21.

And, fans made sure to let their feelings be known about Gruden's appearance.

"Another bad guy. Chiefs gonna chief," one fan wrote. Another said, "Wolf in sheep's clothing." One more fan stated, "Forgot to add disgraced."

However, some fans were a bit excited to see Gruden and even mentioned they would take him in some role on the coaching staff.

"Would 100% take Gruden in an advisory role," a fan put on X. A few other fans mentioned they would rather have Gruden as OC than Matt Nagy.

"Possibly unpopular opinion: I'd rather have Gruden as OC than Nagy."

    "Make him OC over Nagy."

In October 2020, the Raiders defeated the Chiefs at Arrowhead, and it was reportedly requested that the Raiders team bus do a victory lap around the stadium . This caused plenty of controversy at that time, and Gruden showing up to Chiefs practice ignited those reactions as well.

"From Victory laps around Arrowhead to wearing Chiefs Red in St. Joe 4 years later. Life. Fast."

Another fan wasn't as pleased. "We don’t want him there. Someone start doing victory laps around him."

All in all, it's quite the mixed reactions from Chiefs fans, and rightfully so given the history between Gruden and the franchise.

On the other hand, Gruden and Andy Reid have a long relationship with each other and spent time on the Green Bak Packers coaching staff in the 1990s.

Gruden spent the 2023 season as a consultant for the New Orleans Saints.
