The Chiefs are keeping one of their key performers from their championship runs around.
Harrison Butker signed a four-year contract extension with Kansas City to become the highest-paid kicker in the NFL, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported .
ESPN’s Adam Schefter tabbed the contract extension to be worth $25.6 million with $17.75 million guaranteed.
This offseason, Butker became somewhat of an avatar in the culture wars over a commencement speech he gave at Benedictine College in which he spoke about the virtues of traditional marriage where he is the breadwinner and his wife focuses on motherhood.

“It’s a decision I’ve consciously made and one I do not regret at all,” Butker told the audience at the Regina Caeli Academy’s Courage Under Fire gala in Nashville in late May.
“Over the past few days, my beliefs or what people think I believe have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe,” Butker continued. “At the outset, many people expressed a shocking level of hate. But as the days went on, even those who disagreed with my viewpoints shared their support for my freedom of religion.”
With the extension, Butker is tied to the Chiefs through the 2028 season.
