The Kansas City Chiefs have built themselves into a dynasty of sorts over the past half-decade. Three Super Bowls in a span of five seasons and one back-to-back means the Chiefs are now looking to be the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era.

Winning three straight Super Bowls is unheard of and has never been done simply because of the complexities of the game. However, that doesn’t mean that it can never be done.

While teams who had the opportunity to three-peat earlier failed due to various reasons such as injuries, key players retiring, or just losing to a better team, the Chiefs have improved their roster from last year and are looking good to achieve the impossible.

Here, we take a look at five reasons why the Chiefs will three-peat as Super Bowl champions.

Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes connection

Andy Reid was an incredible coach even before Patrick Mahomes came to the party. Mahomes was seen as a gunslinger who needed a lot of work, so several teams passed up on him in the draft.

But, the Reid and Mahomes pairing in Kansas City has worked like magic. The offensive style and playcalling of the Chiefs’ head coach is a perfect fit for Mahomes. Kansas City’s superstar quarterback has shown his ability to work with the offense, going deep when required and moving the ball along by dinking and dunking when called upon.

Without a doubt, the head coach-QB pairing of Reid and Mahomes is one of the top pairs to have worked together in the history of the league.

The Chiefs’ control over the AFC West

The AFC West has seen complete domination by the Chiefs for the past eight years. Not much should change this year, either. The Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, and the Los Angeles Chargers are all still rebuilding and trying to find what works best for them.

Ideally, the Chiefs should be able to own the AFC West once more in 2024 which is the first step toward making a run at another Super Bowl.

    Steve Spagnuolo’s defense

Steve Spagnuolo has been working with the Chiefs as their defensive coordinator since 2019. Since then, he has helped Kansas City win three Super Bowls alongside Reid.

Year by year, Spagnuolo has improved the Chiefs’ defense to the point that last season’s successful campaign was largely due to the much-improved defensive unit.

While Kansas City has lost its number one lockdown corner, L’Jarius Sneed, the Chiefs have complete faith in Spagnuolo and his defensive prowess.

If the offense and defense both can work well in tandem in 2024, Kansas City will be one difficult team to beat.

Re-emergence of the deep ball threat for the Chiefs

Ever since Tyreek Hill was traded to the Dolphins, the Chiefs’ passing game has lacked the speed it once had. Kansas City’s offense, while effective, has been reduced to small gains after small gains while the deep ball threat was nearly gone.

All that is expected to change this year, as the Chiefs drafted the fastest player in the history of the NFL Combine: Xavier Worthy. They have also paired him with another fast receiver in Marquise Brown.

Mahomes and the Chiefs will no doubt be looking to exploit the speed of their receivers to not just get chunks of yards, but to also free up players such as Travis Kelce over the middle.

    Added motivation for the Chiefs

Kansas City’s players and staff are highly motivated and focused on creating history in the NFL by becoming the first team to three-peat in the Super Bowl era. Key leaders of the team such as Mahomes, Kelce, and Chris Jones can be heard talking about it at all times.

Since the Chiefs have largely kept all the core pieces and much of the supporting cast on the team heading into 2024, all players are aware of the history that lies ahead.

Moreover, Kansas City is in its golden period, meaning the players realize that things can change quickly in this league. So, the extra motivation to lift another Lombardi Trophy will help them in their quest. chiefs
