Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Could Play Saturday vs. Jaguars

As we migrate from NFL training camp mentality to preseason game readiness, the teams are doing the same.

Typically, teams think very carefully about how much their stars and most starters will play in the preseason matchups, and the Kansas City Chiefs are no different. Risking injury in the exhibition preseason seems silly for a player who will be integral in future postseason success.

However, the Chiefs and Andy Reid have always done things a bit differently, and it's paid off. So this preseason, Reid is taking a similar approach.

On Wednesday, Reid said that starting quarterback. Patrick Mahomes will take the field on Saturday against the Jacksonville Jaguars along with some other starters.

“As far as the play time for this game, we’ll go the ones for a quarter, twos for the second quarter, threes the third quarter and fours for the fourth quarter, and we’ll just keep it at that,” Reid said, via SI.com .

This is nothing new for Mahomes, who played in the first preseason game last year, albeit just six snaps, a trend that goes back three of the last four preseason.

But expectations for playing time should be low for Mahomes and most of the starters before backup Carson Wentz takes over.
