MAYVILLE — Sebewaing brothers Matt Rocha and Mark Rocha led the Mighty River Hogs of Midland to a 9-3 win over Mayville State Bank in a vintage baseball game on July 18. National tennis grant helps renovation efforts for Janet Jopke Courts
BAY CITY, Mich. - The Janet Jopke Courts at Richard Shaw Park have received a facelift. The Bay Community Tennis Association recently raised nearly $85,000 to go towards the renovations. A portion of the funds came from the U.S. Tennis Association, which provided a $35,000 grant as part of a new program launched last year in honor of tennis superstar Coco Gauff's win at the 2023 U.S. Open.
Swan Valley baseball coach let go after TVC, district championships
Craig Leddy, who coached Swan Valley baseball during one of its strongest stretches in Vikings’ history, learned Thursday that he is out of a job. The Swan Valley Board of Education voted not to rehire Leddy after the Swan Valley coach led the Vikings to Tri-Valley Conference and district titles in 2024.
P.J. Weaver Named Assistant Basketball Coach
The Northwood men's basketball team has announced the hiring of P.J. Weaver as assistant men's basketball coach. He joins Tom Church's staff for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Weaver comes back to Northwood after serving as a head varsity basketball coach at Bay City Western High School last year. In his first season as a varsity head coach, he led Western to 11 wins, their best season since 2011.

NEWS: Pair of Warriors Highlight GPAC National Award Nominees
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) announced its 2023-24 nominees for the top honors in the NAIA, including the A.O. Duer Award, the Emil S. Liston Award, Dr. LeRoy Walker Champions of Character Award and the NAIA Coach of Character Award. Midland University had a pair of student-athletes honored at the conference level and will move on for consideration for the national awards which will be announced in September.
Men's Soccer Sets 2024 Season Schedule
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's soccer team announced their 2024 schedule Monday (July 22). 2024 features a 17-game regular season with their home and season opener versus Northern Mich. in Midland on November 5. Their three-game out-of-conference schedule finishes with neutral site contests against Davenport (September 12) and Saginaw Valley St. (Sept. 14) at the Paradiso Soccer Field on the campus of Tiffin University.
