UTE, Iowa (KCAU) — Officials in Monona County have issued a boil advisory for some Ute residents.

Due to ongoing upgrades to the city’s water system, Monona County Emergency Management is saying some residents may want to boil their water.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources protocol states that whenever water pressure is lost by a city water system, the city is to issue a boil advisory. The ongoing system upgrade has caused a few of these pressure losses. Standard boil advisories remain in effect for 48 hours.

Officials said that residents on 2nd Street were affected by the upgrades on Monday and residents on the north side of Ute may experience effects of the upgrades on Tuesday.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), during a boil advisory, people should use boiled water or bottled water for drinking and to prepare and cook food.

When boiling, bring water to a full rolling boil for one minute and let cool before use. Even if water is filtered, water should be boiled.

Affected residents should have received notices from the city clerk. Any questions can be directed to them at 712-885-2237.

Emergency Management and the local Bomgaars will be offering free drinking water to Ute residents who are affected by the advisory.
